Eagles Aim High! Check out our school spirit!

The first week of October was Spirit Week at our school to help us get excited for the Riley Run Festival! Check out our fun hats we got to wear on hat day:

 

On Friday, October 11th, we finally got to participate in the Riley Run Festival! We began the event with some volleyball:

Then, we RAN!!

Even though running a bunch of laps was hard work, we did it with smiles on our faces and had a blast! We are so proud to be Eagles!

September Updates: Where has the time gone?

1) Swimming: The kids did OUTSTANDING during their first week-long unit of swimming in P.E.! I was so impressed with how they were prepared each day, demonstrated great behavior, and were super brave to get right in the water and swim! They each earned some serious Eagle Eyes for their hard work!

 

 

2) Science Unit: We've been learning a lot about weather!

One thing in particular we learned about was some different types of clouds and how they could help us predict the weather.

We got to do a really fun activity with shaving cream on our desks to model the different types of clouds!

We also acted out the clouds to help us remember their features and purposes!

Safe to say, our weather unit has been a lot of learning fun!

3) Daily Read-Aloud: We finally finished and officially decided we LOVED The Doll People by Ann M. Martin and Laura Godwin! What a fun book!

Busy, Busy, BUSY!

We have been super busy and working hard these past two weeks!

I am so sorry for not updating!

Over the past two weeks, we have been talking a lot about our country and its symbols. This week, we celebrated Constitution Day by learning about our rights and this historical document. Last week was American Pride week!

We created this Wordle with words we thought of when we heard "America".

We learned about a lot of different American symbols and had several discussions about the events of September 11, 2001. We had a special American Pride assembly on 9/11 to honor our country! Our class sang "You're a Grand Ol' Flag" for the school and crowd while waving our flags we made in class!

 

 

We have also been working hard on our STEM project! Our class was given the challenge to identify, plan, and create a school improvement project. After touring the entire school, the kiddos decided they would like to plan and build a tree house to add to our school's playground. Though our first attempt had LOTS of challenges, our second attempt went a bit more smoothly. Who knew building a tree house was so involved!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We have also been lucky enough to have some super fun people read us books!

Max's mom has been sweet enough to come and share two hilarious books with us this year!!

Betty White read Harry the Dirty Dog to us during our reading lesson!

We have been busy, busy, BUSY for sure! Stay tuned for more of our exciting adventures in second grade!

Community Helpers

These are all of the words that come to mind when we think of our community! Wordle.

Last week, we began our unit on communities! We have been learning all about Bluffton, different community buildings, and all about community helpers.

 

We learned a lot about these community helpers, what their jobs are, and what sorts of tools they might use. We also wrote about what community helper we might want to be when we grow up!

 

 

Some of our friends were kind enough to volunteer and share what community helper they might want to be and why.

 

We are very lucky to be part of not only the Bluffton community, but also our school and our classroom communities!

Each student in our class created his/her own puzzle piece to show how we all fit together in our classroom community.
